Sam Rothstein started climbing around 2010 out of a small gym in Dallas, Texas. He quickly joined Team Texas and began progressing rapidly in the gym with the help of a talented team of coaches. After high school, he moved to Colorado to attend CSU and pursue outdoor climbing as much as possible. After a slow start getting sandbagged on some local front range classics, Sam finally put down his first V10 in the Poudre Canyon in 2014. After that, a trip to Hueco Tanks started his dispatching of double-digitĀ boulders with ease. It took another 2 years before his first V12, Critical Mass in the Poudre Canyon.
After Critical Mass, focus shifted to developing boulder problems all across the front range. With some chossy, first ascents that never became classic, he was totally engrossed with finding new climbs and standing projects. Poudre Canyon looming within striking distance, Sam started to lay siege on all of the undone climbs he could find. Filling the gaps of old areas, finding completely new boulders, and putting down some hard projects that had been tried before, Sam had plenty of rock to hone his FA skill set. Hundreds of boulders, both classic and obscure, now hold Sam Rothstein beside the FA designation. Sam both coaches a competitive climbing team and is a routesetter. He continues to get outside 3-4 days a week, and is still hunting for those unclimbed classics in the Poudre.
